McKenzie and Escano Combine for 27 Rebounds as Cyclones Fall to Keystone

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Sophomore Jessica McKenzie and freshman Carmen Escano combined for 27 rebounds as the Centenary University women's basketball team fell to Keystone College, 59-49 on Thursday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.

Keystone quickly opened up a 6-0 lead in the first period and pushed its advantage to 17-4 after 10 minutes of play. Bella Lamonea had nine points in the first 10 minutes of action for the Giants.

The two teams traded points early in the second period as jumper from Faith Shiffer at 3:07 gave Keystone a 26-7 advantage.

Centenary closed the period on a 9-0 run and cut the Keystone lead to 26-16 at the half. Sophomore Victoria Jacobs had six of the nine points during that stretch.

The Cyclones scored five of the first seven points in the third quarter and made it a 28-21 game with 8:26 showing on the clock.

Keystone used a 13-4 run to extend its lead to 41-25 with 5:02 to go in the period. Samy Farah scored four points during that stretch.

The Cyclones scored eight of the final nine points in the period, but Keystone took a 42-33 lead after three period of play. McKenzie tallied six points in that scoring spurt.

A 9-3 run for the Giants pushed the Keystone lead to 51-36 with 5:49 to go in the game. Katie Price scored five points during that run.

The Cyclones and Giants traded points on each end of the floor as the visitors led 56-43 with 3:49 showing on the clock.

Centenary closed the game on a 6-3 run but Keystone claimed the 59-49 win.

Keystone shot 33.3 percent from the field and made 11 three-pointers in the game. The Cyclones posted a 30.9 field goal percentage and made 13-of-18 chances from the foul line. The Cyclones won the rebounding battle, 45-38.

McKenzie posted her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Cyclones. Escano matched her season-high with 15 rebounds and added eight points. Jacobs contributed 16 points.

Lamonea led Keystone with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they travel to Cairn at 1 p.m.
