BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior
Ryan Jasiecki drove in six runs to lead the Centenary University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Clarks Summit University on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. The Cyclones extended their win streak to five straight games with the sweep.
Junior
Christopher Lilly threw a one-hit complete game to lead the Cyclones to a 14-2 win in game one. Jasiecki drove in five and junior
Jon Fleck had three hits including the 100th of his career in the Cyclones' 11-3 game two win.
Game One Recap (Centenary Won 14-2)
The Cyclones wasted little time in getting the offense going in game one. With the bases loaded and two outs, freshman
Keiji Ipposhi was hit by a pitch, which forced in Fleck with the game's first run. Sophomore
Jonathan Pezzato then delivered a two-run single to right field for the 3-0 advantage.
Centenary added to its lead in the top of the second as the Cyclones loaded the bases with one out. Junior
Cole Fratesi drove a single to left that plated a pair of runners and gave the visitors a 5-0 advantage.
The Cyclones had a big fourth inning as they sent 12 men to the plate and scored seven runs in the frame. Junior
Chris Miller had the big blow of the inning as he drove in three runs with a double to right field. Ipposhi, Jasiecki and Fleck all added RBI singles as the Cyclones took a 12-0 lead in the game.
Lilly was cruising on the mound for the Cyclones, as he did not allow a hit and just one runner reached via an error through the first five innings.
Centenary added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings for a 14-0 lead.
Clarks Summit finally reached versus Lilly in the bottom of the sixth. Two of the first three batters reached via a walk before
Kegan Laman drove in a run with a double to right. An error by the Cyclones later in the frame allowed a second run to score for the Defenders.
Lilly shut down the Defenders in order in the seventh for the 14-2 Centenary win.
Lilly earned his seventh win of the year, which is tied for second in program single-season history. He allowed the two runs, one of which earned, on one hit while posting his fourth complete game of the season. Lilly also set the school record for single-season starts with his 12th of the season.
Jacob Leisinger took the loss for Clarks Summit after giving up 10 runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Jasiecki had three hits, a run scored and an RBI for the Cyclones while Miller finished with two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman
Christopher Gass had two hits and three runs scored while Fleck finished with two hits and two runs scored.
Game Two Recap (Centenary won 11-3)
After battling through two scoreless innings, the Cyclones broke through first in game two. Jasiecki had a three-run home run in the third and Ipposhi added an RBI groundout as Centenary took a 4-0 advantage.
Jasiecki was not done yet as he ripped a two-run double to right center in the fourth and increased the Centenary lead to 6-0.
Sophomore
Joe Saffioti pushed the Centenary lead to 7-0 with an RBI double in the fifth inning.
Clarks Summit got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Ryan Clark and
Evan Rarick each had RBI doubles to highlight the inning.
In the sixth inning, Fleck ripped a leadoff triple and scored on an error as Centenary extended its advantage to 8-3.
The Cyclones tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh. Pezzato had an RBI single before senior
Chase Koffel had an RBI double. Fleck then reached his career milestone as his single to center scored Koffel with the game's final run.
Junior
Nick Scotto picked up the game two win as he went 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. Senior
JT Valley pitched 2.1 strong innings of relief work and allowed just two hits.
Joshua Knight took the loss for Clarks Summit as he gave up eight runs on nine hits in six innings.
Jasiecki finished with two hits and the five RBIs for the Cyclones. Fleck and freshman
Paul Links each had three hits and two runs scored for Centenary.
Clark and Leisinger each had two hits and an RBI for Clarks Summit.
Centenary wraps up the regular season next weekend with a series against Cairn. The Cyclones and Highlanders are set to play on Friday, May 3 at 3 p.m. at Morris Catholic High School.
