BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Seniors
Jordan Juliano,
Christopher Muce and
Etiini Udott all recorded two wins for the Centenary wrestling team on day one of the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship hosted by the College of Brockport.
The senior trio have all advanced to the semifinals of their respective weight classes and will have a chance on Sunday to earn a top two finish and National Qualifier status.
As a team, the Cyclones sit eighth of 18 teams with 40 points.
Muce went 2-0 at 157-pounds for the Cyclones on Saturday. Muce started his day with a 4-0 decision versus
Alfred Corradeti of Ursinus. The senior then followed that up with a forfeit win over
Antonio LaRocca of Hunter.
Muce will face
Jawan Jones of Ithaca on Sunday in the semifinals. He earned a 6-1 decision over Jones when the two faced each other in the regular season.
Juliano posted his two wins at 174-pounds via major decisions. He posted his first major decision by a 14-3 score against
Gianno Silba of SUNY Cortland. Juliano then followed that up with a 13-4 major decision versus
Aidan McNally of Scranton.
Juliano will now take on
Chibueze Chukwuezi of Ithaca on Sunday in semifinal action. The two did not meet when Centenary hosted Ithaca in January.
Udott earned his wins on Saturday via decision and a fall. He started his day with 10-3 decision over
Alex Mirabella of The College of New Jersey. The top ranked wrestler in the nation at 197-pounds then needed just 1:34 to post the fall versus
Dalton Elias of Ithaca. It was Udott's second win of the season versus Elias.
Udott will now face
Dylan Dubuque of SUNY Cortland in the semifinals on Sunday.
Redshirt junior
Alec Donovan will have a chance to potentially grab a top seven finish at 165-pounds on Sunday. After advancing with a bye through the first round, Donovan suffered a hard fought loss to
John Garda of TCNJ. He then bounced back with a fall versus
Thomas Marrone of SUNY Oneonta.
Donovan will face
Jackson Bell of Brockport on Sunday.
Freshmen
Jacy Jones (125-pounds) and
Cameron Bruffy (141-pounds) each picked up one win in their first regional appearance. Jones started his day with a tech fall versus
Devin Hall of Alfred State before suffering a pair of losses. Bruffy got tripped up in his first match of the day but bounced back with a tech fall over
Bryan Coll of Oswego State. He then fell in his next match.
Day two of the Mideast Regional Championship gets underway Sunday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. with the semifinals.
