FLEMINGTON, N.J. – Freshman
Anthony Ranaudo hit a grand slam, his first career home run, for the Centenary University baseball team in game one of a doubleheader with Stockton University on Saturday afternoon at Diamond Nation in Flemington, New Jersey.
The Ospreys rode a 10 run first inning in game one to a 22-4 victory. In game two, the Cyclones pulled to within one in the bottom of the fifth but ultimately fell to Stockton by an 8-4 margin.
Game One Recap (Stockton 22, Centenary 4)
The Ospreys had the hot bats in game one as they scored 10 runs in the top of the first. The big blow in the inning came off the bat of
Mike DeSenzo, who had a bases clearing triple to right center.
Stockton added five runs in the second as
JJ Swentkowski had a two run single.
The Ospreys continued to find ways to score runs as the visitors took a 22-0 advantage through six and a half innings.
Centenary got on the board in the bottom of the seventh, as the Cyclones loaded the bases with two outs. Freshmen
Korey Vough and
Dante Vartolone singled before junior
Nick Scotto drew a walk. Ranaudo then sent a ball down the left field line that cleared the fence and scored all four runs.
Ray Hughes picked up the win on the mount for the Ospreys as he went six innings and allowed just one hit while striking out seven. Senior
Frankie Iannone took the loss for the Cyclones as he gave up six runs as the first of four Centenary pitchers on the day.
Joe Pipher led Stockton with three hits, three runs scored and three RBIs.
Ranaudo had a hit, a run scored and four RBIs for the Cyclones.
Game Two Recap (Stockton 8, Centenary 4)
Stockton took the early lead in game two as well as
Andrew Slinger hit a two-run home run to right center in the top of the second inning.
The Ospreys tacked on single runs in the top of the third, fourth and fifth innings and took a 5-0 lead in the game.
The Cyclones got the offense going in the bottom of the fifth as senior
Ryan Jasiecki, sophomore
Jonathan Pezzato and senior
Chase Koffel all had one-out singles to load the bases.
Junior
Jon Fleck plated the first Centenary run with an RBI single before junior
Cole Fratesi plated a second run as he had an infield RBI single.
Junior
Chris Miller made it a 5-3 game with his RBI single to right field. Freshman
Christopher Gass added a sac fly, which made it a 5-4 game.
Pipher hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh, which made the final score in game two, 8-4.
James Manos earned the game two win for Stockton as he went 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. Senior
Casey Brown took the loss for the Cyclones after giving up five runs in 4.2 innings of action.
Pipher led Stockton with two hits and four RBIs.
Fleck paced the Cyclones with three hits, a run scored and an RBI while Koffel, Fratesi and Jasiecki all had two hits and a run scored.
The Cyclones will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 1 as they host Valley Forge in a doubleheader at Diamond Nation starting at 12 p.m.
