Fleck Has Seven RBIs as Baseball Routs Valley Forge, 21-0

FLEMINGTON, N.J. – Junior Jon Fleck had a career-high seven RBIs to lead the Centenary University baseball team to a 21-0 victory over the University of Valley Forge on Friday afternoon at Diamond Nation in Flemington, New Jersey.

Fleck's seven RBIs are tied for the second most in single-game history at Centenary. It was the first time a Cyclone had seven or more RBIs in a game since Nigel Archibald had seven against Merchant Marine in 2004.

As a team, the Cyclones banged out 21 hits in the contest as seven of the nine starters recorded at least one hit in the contest.

Centenary wasted little time in getting on the board as sophomore Joe Saffioti lifted a sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the first, which scored Fleck for the 1-0 advantage.

After junior Christopher Lilly set the Patriots down in order in the top of the second, the Cyclones went back to work in the bottom half of that frame. Freshman Paul Links had a sacrifice fly and senior Chase Koffel added an RBI groundout as the Cyclones plated three in the frame and took a 4-0 lead in the game.

Centenary turned in a big inning in the bottom of the third as the Cyclones sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs. Freshman Christopher Gass had a two run single before Fleck hit a ball to the fence in center field that resulted in a two-run inside the park home run to highlight the frame.

Centenary made it an 11-0 game in the fourth as junior Chris Miller doubled to left center to score senior Ryan Jasiecki.

The Cyclones tacked on five more runs in the fifth inning as the home team sent 11 batters to the plate. The inning was highlighted by RBI hits from Jasiecki and freshman Anthony Ranaudo and a bases loaded walk from Koffel. Fleck then added a two-run single to right field.

Centenary capped the scoring with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Links and Koffel drove in runs before Fleck delivered a three-run triple to right field.

The Cyclones claimed the 21-0 win as the game was called after seven innings of play.

The Centenary pitching staff was on point throughout the day as Valley Forge had just one runner reach third base in the game and that came with two outs in the seventh inning.

Lilly picked up his second win of the season as he allowed just two hits and struck out four in four innings of work. Senior Casey Brown followed that up with five strikeouts in two shutout innings. Sophomore Justin Velez closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning.

Shashwat Chitnis took the loss for Valley Forge after surrendering nine runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Fleck went 3-for-4 at the plate with the seven RBIs and two runs scored for the Cyclones while sophomore Jonathan Pezzato had a game-high four hits with two runs scored. Gass contributed three hits, four runs scored and two RBIs while Jasiecki also had three hits and four runs scored for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Friday, March 8 when they host SUNY Cobleskill for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. at Diamond Nation.
