MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Senior
Ryan Jasiecki and freshman
Christopher Gass each drove in a pair of runs in game one to lead the Centenary University baseball team to a doubleheader split with Lancaster Bible College on Monday night.
Centenary picked up a 5-2 win in game one but the Chargers bounced back for a 4-0 win in game two.
Game One Recap (Centenary Won 5-2)
The Cyclones wasted little time getting on the board in game one. With two outs in the top of the first inning, junior
Cole Fratesi walked and stole second. Junior
Chris Miller followed with base on balls of his own and the Cyclones had runners on first and second. Jasiecki then drove a ball to the wall in right center as his triple gave the Cyclones a 2-0 advantage.
Centenary added to its lead in the top of the second. Gass drew a one-out walk and scored on senior
Chase Koffel's infield hit.
Junior
Christopher Lilly continued his strong start to the season as he allowed just three hits through the first five innings.
Centenary increased its lead to 5-0 in the top of the sixth inning. Jasiecki drew a lead-off walk and sophomore
Jonathan Pezzato was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. After sophomore
Joe Saffioti sacrificed the runners up a base, Gass delivered a two-run single to center field.
Lancaster Bible scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, which made it a 5-2 game.
Jacob Schenck had a two-run single to left center. The runs were the first surrendered by Lilly this season and snapped a 16.2 innings scoreless streak for the Cyclone junior.
Freshman
Jared Miller recorded a scoreless seventh inning to preserve the 5-2 win and earn his first collegiate save.
Lilly earned his third win of the season after giving up two runs on six hits in six innings of work. He struck out three in the contest. Miller had a strikeout in his one inning of work for the Cyclones. Dan Zimmerman took the loss for Lancaster Bible as he went 5.1 innings and allowed five runs on four hits while striking out eight.
Jasiecki led the Cyclones with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored while Gass went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Game Two Recap (Lancaster Bible Won 4-0)
In game two it was the Chargers striking first as Schenck drew a one-out bases loaded walk in the top of the first to force in the game's first run.
Centenary loaded the bases in the bottom of the first put the Cyclones were unable to get a run across the plate.
Lancaster Bible added three runs in the top of the fifth inning and extended its advantage to 4-0.
Luis Padilla and
Will Welsh had back-to-back RBI doubles to highlight the inning.
The Cyclones put two runners on in the bottom of the fifth and again in the seventh but could not get a run across as Lancaster Bible claimed the victory.
Kyle Ebersole earned the win on the mound for Lancaster Bible. He gave up seven hits while striking out eight in the complete game effort. Senior
Casey Brown took the loss for the Cyclones as he surrendered four runs on six hits in four innings of work.
Padilla led Lancaster Bible with three hits, one run scored and an RBI in the contest.
Junior
Jon Fleck turned in another 3-for-4 performance at the plate for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones are back in action on Tuesday, March 12 when they take on Mount Aloysius at 3:30 p.m. in Myrtle Beach.
