ROSEMONT, Pa. – Freshmen
Jessica McKenzie and
Victoria Jacobs each scored 10 points but Rosemont College got out to a quick start and earned an 85-42 win over the Centenary University women's basketball team on Wednesday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Rosemont opened the first quarter on a 13-0 run and took a 27-6 lead after one period of play.
Jacobs scored four points in the second quarter but Rosemont continued to build its advantage and took a 46-14 advantage at the half.
Centenary scored six of the first eight points in the third quarter but the Ravens led 48-18 with 9:03 showing on the clock. McKenzie had a pair of buckets for the Cyclones in that stretch.
The two teams continued to battle as Rosemont took a 72-29 lead after three periods of play.
Centenary put together an 8-0 run early in the fourth quarter, which featured a basket from senior
Kayla Rowan.
That bucket was part of five points scored by Rowan in the period for the Cyclones.
Rosemont remained undefeated in CSAC play with the 85-42 win.
Rosemont shot 51.7 percent from the field in the contest and went 19-for-22 from the foul line. Centenary post a field goal percentage of 25 percent for the game and was 12-for-14 from the charity stripe. Rosemont held a 40-34 advantage in the rebounding battle.
Jacobs added five rebounds to go with her 10 points for the Cyclones while McKenzie had two rebounds and an assist. Junior
Dayna Wich led the Cyclones on the boards with seven and added seven points.
Jayme Byers led Rosemont with 18 points.
The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 16 as they return home to host Bryn Athyn in the regular season finale. The Cyclones will honor their lone senior, Rowan before the 1 p.m. tip.
