DELHI, N.Y. – Junior
Chris LaBelle exploded for his second 30+ point performance of the season but a second half comeback fell just short for the Centenary University men's basketball team in a 96-95 loss to SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon.
Centenary jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the game with 18:13 remaining in the first half.
The two squads traded baskets over the next several minutes as LaBelle's jumper at 13:11 gave the Cyclones a 13-10 edge.
With the game tied at 16-16, SUNY Delhi went on a 14-5 run and took a 30-21 advantage with 7:46 showing on the clock.

Norman Wilson gave the Broncos a 39-23 lead with 5:10 to go in the period.
Four straight points from freshman
Owen Roberts III cut the SUNY Delhi lead to 39-27 with 4:26 left until the half.
SUNY Delhi pushed its lead back to 18, 45-27 as Wilson drained another three-pointer at 3:49.
Centenary got a late lay-up from sophomore
Billy Veras but SUNY Delhi took a 53-38 lead into the locker room at the half.
SUNY Delhi hit the opening lay-up of the second half and pushed its lead to 55-38 with 19:47 to go in the game.
Centenary responded with a 10-0 run and cut the deficit to seven, 55-48 with 17:00 showing on the clock. LaBelle had five points during that stretch.
The Broncos pushed their lead back to 10, 60-50 with 15:42 showing on the clock.
The two teams traded baskets on each end of the court as a pair of free throws from sophomore
Tyler White made it an 85-76 game with 7:12 to go in the contest.
A 6-1 run by the Cyclones pulled the visitors to within six, 88-82 with 4:55 to play. Veras and LaBelle each had three points during that stretch.
The two teams continued to battle on each end of the court as an 8-3 run by Centenary tied the game at 95-95 with 1:54 to go in the game. LaBelle had five points in that stretch.
SUNY Delhi made one of two from the foul line with 16 seconds remaining to take a 96-95 lead.
Centenary got off three shots in the final 10 seconds of the game but could not get any of them to fall as SUNY Delhi held on for the win.
SUNY Delhi shot 46.1 percent from the field and made 17 three-pointers in the contest. Centenary posted a 48.6 field goal percentage and was 24-for-37 from the foul line. The Cyclones won the rebounding battle, 49-36.
LaBelle turned in a strong all-around game to lead the Cyclones. In addition to his 31 points he added nine rebounds, four assists and a block while playing all 40 minutes.
Veras finished with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Roberts III came off the bench to score 16 points while sophomore
Divine Anderson had 10 points.
Wilson led SUNY Delhi with 22 points.
Centenary is back in action as it travels to Wesley on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m.
