MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University men's soccer team secured the number one seed for the upcoming Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament with a 7-0 win at the College of Saint Elizabeth on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.
The Cyclones will be the number one seed in the tournament for the first time since the 2016 season.
Junior
Tom Parry scored three goals while sophomore
Jahn Lopez had three assists and broke the Centenary single-season assists record in the win.
"Great performance by the boys today," said head coach
Josh Spivack. "Both Tom and Jahn have been unbelievable. Tom has just been fighting to score the goals and Jahn has been seeing the field incredibly well."
Centenary rifled off several shots early and managed to break through at the 15:48 mark. Junior
Nik Polizos picked off a pass on a goal kick and fired it home for his first goal of the season.
Parry added to the Cyclones advantage with a goal off a pass from freshman
Julian Mesa at 35:44.
Centenary carried that 2-0 advantage into the half.
Parry struck for a pair of goals to open the second half, the second coming at 63:56. Parry now has 16 goals on the season, which is tied for second most in single-season history at Centenary (
Quinn Khouri-16 in 2014).
Both of Parry's goals were assisted by Lopez. Lopez's second helper gave him 11 on the season, which broke
Andrew Pinella's school record for single-season assists (10 in 2010).
The Cyclone offense wasn't done firing in this one as freshman
Luke Wawrin scored off a pass from sophomore
Besnik Hadzovic at 68:20. Wawrin's first collegiate goal gave Centenary a 5-0 advantage in the contest.
Hadzovic pushed the Centenary lead to 6-0 when he scored off a pass from Lopez at 80:34.
The Cyclones capped the scoring as freshman
Juan Restrepo scored his fifth goal of the season at 89:20. That tally made the final score 7-0.
Sophomore
Paul LiTrenta needed to make just one save to earn the win in goal.
Mauricio Herrera made 13 saves in the loss for the Eagles.
Parry's three goals on the day led the Cyclones. He now has 16 goals on the season and 34 points. His 34 points are tied with Pinella for fourth on the single-season points list at Centenary.
Lopez had three assists in the game and now has 12 on the year. In addition to setting the Centenary single-season record, he moved into the CSAC top 10 for single-season assists.
The Cyclones will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they host #4 Rosemont at 2 p.m. in the CSAC Semifinals.
