LANGHORNE, Pa. – Sophomore
Paul LiTrenta made five saves as the Centenary University men's soccer team picked up a huge 3-0 road win at Cairn University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Cyclones improve to 5-0 in CSAC play and sit alone atop the standings with two games remaining.
"This was truly a team effort through and through," said head coach
Josh Spivack. "We haven't put a better performance together all year. Doing it against a tough team like Cairn is really special."
The two teams battled back-and-forth in the early going of the first half.
It was the Cyclones that broke through first at the 16:43 mark. Sophomore
Jahn Lopez booted a free kick into the box and fellow sophomore
Kenneth Pinedo was able to knock it into the lower right corner for the 1-0 advantage.
Centenary extended its advantage to 2-0 in the 34th minute as Lopez played a ball into the box that sophomore
Besnik Hadzovic was able to settle and control. Hadzovic poked the ball into the lower right corner of the net for his fifth goal of the year.
Lopez's two assists in the first half, gave him eight assists for the year. That ranks tied for seventh in single-season history at Centenary.
Centenary carried that 2-0 advantage into the half as LiTrenta made a save as time expired.
The two teams battled on both ends of the field in the second half.
The Cyclones were able to extend their lead to 3-0 at the 67:34 mark as Hadzovic found junior
Tom Parry with a pass. Parry made a nice run into the box and connected for his team-leading 11th goal of the season. Parry leads the CSAC with 11 goals this season and his 11 markers rank tied for eighth in single-season history at Centenary.
Both teams had their chances over the final 20 minutes of play but neither found the back-of-the-net and the Cyclones claimed the 3-0 victory.
LiTrenta made two saves in the first half and three in the second to earn the win in goal. It is LiTrenta's first shutout of the season.
Kameron Clark also made five saves in the loss for Cairn.
Hadzovic finished with three points on the goal and an assist while Parry had two points via the goal.
Centenary is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when it hosts Keystone at 1 p.m. The Cyclones will honor seniors
