Big Third Inning Lifts Keystone Over the Cyclones

LA PLUME, Pa. – Junior Frankie Iannone threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief work but it was not enough as the Centenary University baseball team fell at Keystone College 6-1 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Tuesday.

The Giants did most of their damage in the third innings as they sent nine men to the plate and scored five runs. Dakota McFadden had a two-run single in the frame while Mohammed Hussein and Bray Curreri added RBI doubles.

Keystone made it a 6-0 game with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ronald Medina in the bottom of the seventh.

Centenary had its chances as the Cyclones had two men reach in both the second and sixth innings but the Cyclones were unable to break through until the top of the ninth.

Senior Tim Maxwell led off the top of the final inning with a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. He eventually came around to score as fellow senior Kevin Sensale singled to right field. An error on the play allowed Maxwell to cross the plate.

Nathan Hinkley earned the win on the mound for Keystone. He went eight innings and allowed just three hits while striking out six. Junior Christopher Lilly took the loss for the Cyclones as he gave up five runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Hussein led Keystone with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI while McFadden had a hit and two RBIs.

Sensale had two hits for the Cyclones while Maxwell had a base knock and a run scored.

The Cyclones and Giants will face off again on Thursday, March 12 at 3 p.m. That game will be played at Diamond Nation in Flemington, N.J.
