Renee Hack notched a career-high 21 saves and junior
Kristin Karszen scored her first career goal for the Centenary University women's lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
The Mariners scored 14 first half goals en route to a 24-1 win.
Grace McHugh scored the first three goals of the game and four in the first half. She also contributed three assists in the first period of play.
Maura Malone and
Meredith Willard each recorded three goals in the first 30 minutes of play.
Hack made 16 of her 21 saves in the first 30 minutes of action.
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy scored the first 10 goals of the second half and held a 24-0 advantage in the contest.
Centenary broke through as junior
Nicole Soriero won the draw at 1:27. The Cyclones brought the ball into the offensive end as Karszen fired a shot from the far side into the back of the net for the goal. That made the final score 24-1.
Hannah Gizzi made one save in the first half to earn the win in goal for the Mariners.
Caitlin Erbacher made one save in relief work in the second half.
For Hack, it was the third time in her Cyclone career that she has recorded 20 or more saves in a game. Her 21 stops are tied for the second most single-game saves in program history. She also now has the second most saves by a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) goalkeeper this season.
Malone led the Merchant Marine Academy with six goals and six draw controls while McHugh finished with four goals and four assists.
Karszen added four draw controls and two ground balls to go along with her goal. Soriero tallied two ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.
The Cyclones wrap up a busy week as they welcome Cabrini to J.E. Reeves Jr. Field for their CSAC opener on Friday, March 16. Opening draw in that contest is set for 2 p.m.
