HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Freshman
Sydney D'Ortone and junior
Nicole Soriero scored as the Centenary University women's lacrosse team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play against Cabrini University on Friday afternoon.
The Cavaliers opened up a 12-0 halftime advantage en route to a 17-2 victory.
Avery Murphy scored a pair of goals for the Cavaliers in the first two minutes of the game and finished with four first half tallies to lead the visitors.
Taylor Dimmerling had a pair of first half goals and an assist for Cabrini as well.
Cabrini opened the second half scoring with a goal from
Lauren Hughes at 21:22 as the visitors led 13-0.
The Cyclones broke through with a free position goal from D'Ortone at 18:51. The Cabrini goalkeeper was called for a foul and D'Ortone took advantage of the open net to put one on the board.
Cabrini scored four more times as
Liz Hoeffner scored her third of the game while Hughes added a pair of assists.
The Cyclones got on the board one more time as a clear attempt by Cabrini failed. Soriero scooped up the ground ball and went straight to the goal and scored. That made the final score 17-2 in favor of Cabrini.
Devon Scharf started the game in goal for Cabrini and made one save in the first half of action.
Noeila Ramirez made one save in relief for the Cavaliers. Junior
Renee Hack made four saves in the loss for Centenary.
Murphy led Cabrini with four goals and five draw controls while Hoeffner finished with three goals, three assists, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
D'Ortone and Soriero had the goals for the Cyclones. Soriero added two ground balls and two draw controls. Junior
Kristin Karszen contributed a team-high four draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover. Sophomore
Brittany Gray added two ground balls and a caused turnover while freshman
Tiara Lee Rivera had a ground ball and a caused turnover.
The Cyclones are back in action on Tuesday, March 20 when they travel to DeSales for a 6:30 p.m. game.
