SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior
Etiini Udott won the 197-pound weight class to lead the Centenary University wrestling team to a second place finish at the Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.
Udott was one of six Cyclones to finish earn a top six finish on the day.
Udott went 5-0 on the day and was credited with three falls. He started his day with a 13-7 decision against
Ryan O'Shea of Cortland. Udott then dispatched of
Daniel Price from Western New England in 1:33. He posted a fall over
William Gilliam of Johns Hopkins in 4:12. Udott earned a 12-3 major decision against
Nick Klinoff of East Stroudsburg. He wrapped up his title with a fall in 39 seconds over
Travis Manick of Rhode Island College.
Senior
Christopher Muce grabbed a second place finish at 157-pounds for the Cyclones. After earning a first round bye, Muce got things started with a fall versus
Derick Guerrero of Bridgewater State in 2:01. He followed that up with a fall in 2:07 against
Hiro Tamada of Trinity. Muce kept things rolling with a 5-3 decision versus
Ryan Monteiro of Western New England. He advanced to the championship bout with a 3-1 decision over
Christian Gosch from the Coast Guard Academy. In the finals, Muce fell to
Grant Sorensen of Trinity by a 6-2 decision.
Freshman
Stanley Wojdylak continued his strong performance of late with a second place finish at 149-pounds. Wojdylak started his day with a 7-2 decision over
Ciovel Cuevas of East Stroudsburg. He then posted a fall in 2:48 versus
Colby Ferreti of Plymouth State. Wojdylak needed just 1:07 to record a fall over
Jack Albin of Johns Hopkins. He reached the championship bout of his weight class with a 2-0 decision over
Jared Garcia of Southern Maine. Wojdylak fell in the championship bout to
JoJo Gonzalez of American International.
Senior
Alec Donovan finished fourth in the 179-pound bracket for the Cyclones. He started his day with a tech fall over
Nick Almonte of Springfield College, 16-1. Donovan followed that up with an 11-1 major decision versus
Nathaniel Stemple of Rhode Island College. He then posted a 7-5 decision over
Marco Gaita of Wesleyan. Donovan fell to the third-place bout after suffering a tough 3-1 decision against
Richard Viruet of East Stroudsburg. In the third-place bout,
A.J. Aeberli of Coast Guard just slipped past Donovan by an 8-7 score.
The Cyclones weren't done in the 174-pound bracket as senior
Jordan Juliano snagged a fifth place finish. Juliano started his day with a 23-8 tech fall over
David Symmes of Western New England. He followed that up with a 3-2 decision over
Aarin Feliz from Springfield. Juliano was then tripped up by
Mike Raccioppi of East Stroudsburg. Juliano bounced back with an 18-7 major decision versus
Luke Anselmi of Williams. He followed that up with another major decision, this time by a 10-2 mark against
Nasir Grissom of Williams. Juliano secured his fifth place finish with a 3-2 decision over Feliz.
Senior
JT Valley secured a sixth place finish for the Cyclones in the 184-pound bracket. He started his day with a 3-2 decision against
Josh Farrar of Cortland. Valley suffered a tech fall to
John Boyle of Western New England. In the consolation bracket, Valley earned a tech fall by an 18-1 margin over
Sam Strozier of Southern Maine. He then earned a 5-3 decision versus
Phillip Rogers of Coast Guard. Valley suffered a hard fought 2-0 decision to
Mike Gallagher of Rhode Island College.
The Cyclones will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 2 when they host the Bob Quade Open starting at 9 a.m.
