HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Senior
Josh Weiss had two goals and two assists to lead the Centenary University men's soccer team to a 6-2 win over the College of New Rochelle on Wednesday afternoon in nonconference action. The Cyclones extended their win streak to four straight games with the victory.
The Cyclones got on the board first as sophomore
Daisuke Suzuki scored off a pass from Weiss at 14:27.
Centenary pushed its lead to 2-0 as Weiss put a ball in the back of the net off a pass from junior
Matt Miller in the 29th minute.
The Cyclones carried that 2-0 advantage into the half as Centenary held a 9-4 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Centenary scored the first two goals of the second half and pushed its lead to 4-0. Freshman
Besnik Hadzovic put one on the scoreboard off a pass from senior
Roger Fernandez. Fellow freshman
Shane Wilson then headed home his first collegiate goal off a ball that was inserted on a corner kick by Weiss at 52:47.
New Rochelle briefly halted the Centenary scoring run with goals from
Rolando Oseguera and
Marcelo Furchi. The Blue Angels' goals made it a 4-2 game at the 61:54 mark.
Senior
Jared Miele scored his third goal off the season off a ball that was inserted on a corner kick by freshman
Stephen Zuluaga at 64:42.
Centenary capped the scoring and made it a 6-2 game as Weiss scored his second of the day off a pass from junior
Luke Cruver at 66:54.
Senior
Devon Warne made four saves to earn his sixth win of the year in goal. Freshmen
Will Hodic and
Paul LiTrenta each made one save while combining to play the final 17:40 in goal.
Elijah Robinson made six saves in the loss for New Rochelle.
Centenary led a 25-10 advantage in shots in the game and the Cyclones took nine corner kicks to the Blue Angels' five.
Nine Cyclones recorded at least one point in the game as Weiss led the way six points (2g, 2a) and Wilson scored his first career goal.
The Cyclones are back in action when they resume Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play by traveling to Keystone on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m.
