ROSEMONT, Pa. – A big first half lifted Rosemont College to an 86-67 win over the Centenary University men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Chris LaBelle paced the Cyclones with a game-high 21 points, his fifth game this season with 20 or more points.
Rosemont jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead on a
Mekhi Clemons lay-up at 17:57. The two teams traded baskets as
Greg Robinson's three-pointer at 16:24 pulled the Cyclones to within three, 12-9.
A
Larry Joseph lay-up at 13:29 gave the visitors a 15-14 edge. However, Rosemont answered with an
Andrew Michaels' jumper at 13:15 and took the lead back 16-15.
The two teams continued to battle as Robinson's second triple of the half pulled Centenary to within one, 21-20 with 9:33 left on the clock.
A 10-0 run allowed Rosemont to take a 31-20 advantage with 6:17 to go in the period. The Cyclones got back-to-back buckets from
Hamp Smith and LaBelle, which made it a 36-22 game with 4:28 showing on the clock.
The two teams went back-and-forth before LaBelle drained a triple at the buzzer for the Cyclones. Rosemont led 50-32 at the half.
The two teams traded buckets to open the second half as Robinson's lay-up made it a 52-34 game with 19:07 to go in the contest.
Both teams continued to battle on both ends of the court. The Ravens and Cyclones traded three-pointers as Rosemont led 68-44 with 12:50 to play in the game.
Michael Young had the triple for the Cyclones.
LaBelle scored three straight points for the Cyclones which made it a 68-47 game with 8:56 left in the contest.
The two teams continued to battle before a late jumper from
Jalen Hayes for the Cyclones. That final basket gave Rosemont an 86-67 win.
Rosemont shot 60 percent from the field in the game and made 16-of-21 chances from the foul line. Centenary shot 48 percent from the field and made seven three-pointers. The Ravens won the rebounding battle, 36-24.
LaBelle added three rebounds, two assists and two steals to go with his 21 points. Robinson added eight points and three steals.
Clemons had 17 points to lead Rosemont in the contest.
The Cyclones are back in action on Monday, Jan. 22 when they host Immaculata at 7 p.m. in John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center.
