Amanda Fullem (Linden, N.J. / Mother Seton) recorded 14 digs, five kills and three assists as the Centenary University volleyball team dropped matches against NJCU and Brooklyn College in a tri-match at New Jersey City University on Saturday.
NJCU 3, Centenary 0 (25-5, 25-7, 25-14)
NJCU went wire-to-wire in today's opening defeat of the Cyclones. NJCU improved to 7-7, while Centenary fell to 1-8. The Gothic Knights rolled with a .438 hitting percentage and a double-double from Georgina Rayo with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Fullem finished with eight digs and three kills, while junior
Valentina Suizzo (North Haledon, N.J. / Eastern Christian) posted six digs, three kills and one ace. Despite the loss, the Cyclones only had a negative hitting percentage in the opening set. Centenary finished with a .000 and a .045 percentage in the final two sets.
Brooklyn 3, Centenary 0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-16)
The Bulldogs improve to 9-5 overall, while the Cyclones fall to 1-9 overall after being swept in their final match of the afternoon. Brooklyn had two players record double-doubles in Michaela Appel (15 kills, 11 Digs) and Sarina Rozek (11 kills and 11 digs). Fullem and sophomore
Brielle Gensinger (Blairstown, N.J. / Warren County Tech.) each tallied two digs, while junior
Melissa Krueger (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) and sophomore
Nicci Veras (Newark, N.J. / Shabazz) combined for 16 digs in the loss.
After losing the first two sets by an identical 25-12 score, Centenary remained competitive in the final set.The Clones fell behind 10-6 early in the set, but back-to-back aces by Krueger and a kill by Suizzo evened it up at 11-11. The Bulldogs recovered and closed the match on a 15-5 run.
Sophomore
Storm Spooner (South Brunswick, N.J. / South Brunswick) added two aces, while freshman
Leandra Garcia (Plainfield, N.J. / Central Jersey College Prep) tallied a kill.
