LANGHORNE, Pa. (Sept. 30, 2017)- Junior
Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) assisted on both goals as the Centenary University men's soccer team remained unbeaten in Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 victory over Cairn University on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover) and junior
Chris Cameron (Waldwick, N.J. / Waldwick) each scored a goal for the Cyclones who improve to 3-4-1 overall and 2-0 in the CSAC. Brendan Keller recorded two shots for the Highlanders who fall to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the CSAC.
Shots came at a premium in the opening stanza, as both squads combined for only five shots. It looked like the first half was going to end in a scoreless tie, but Centenary changed that in the final minute of play. Weiss received the ball on the right side, just outside the 18 yard box, and played it over the top to Cameron. Cameron got a piece of his forehead on the ball and redirected it for the score. Centenary held the 1-0 advantage at the intermission.
In the second half, the Cyclones didn't have to wait long before they answered again. In the 57
th minute, Weiss played the ball across the middle for White. White easily slotted the ball past the keeper for the score.
White's goal capped off the scoring for the afternoon, despite both teams combining for 15 shots in the second stanza.
Cameron recorded four shots, freshman
Eric Nugent (Dublin, Ireland / St Joseph's Secondary) took three and both senior
Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury) and junior
Roger Fernandez (Succcasunna, N.J. / Roxbury) tallied two shots apiece. Senior
Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) made five saves in 90 minutes of work and recorded the victory. Brandon Hasko, Brett Kikendall, Noah Akers and Matthew Bregmaier each recorded a shot for the Highlanders. Colin Baker made five saves and took the loss for Cairn.
