HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Apr. 13, 2017)- Senior
Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) recorded a hat-trick and became the second player in school history to reach 200 career goals as the Centenary University women's lacrosse team fell to Marywood University, 16-3 on Senior Day.
Sam Bussinelli finished with five points on three goals and two assists for the Pacers who improve to 9-4 overall and 6-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Sophomore
Renee Hack (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) made 11 saves for the Cyclones who fall to 2-9 overall and 2-5 in the CSAC.
Voelkner netted all three goals for the Cyclones who have lost their last five and remain winless in the month of April. Marywood opened the contest with seven unanswered goals before Voelkner finally got Centenary on the board with a goal, off an assist from freshman
Kassidy Scheuring (Hampton Bays, N.Y. / Hampton Bays), with 13:20 remaining. The Pacers finished the first half with five unanswered for a 12-1 lead at intermission.
???????Voelkner opened the second half scoring her second goal of the afternoon and her 200
th career goal. Hack scooped up a groundball and tossed it about 50 yards. Voelkner ran past the last Marywood defender, picked up the ball and went one-on-one with the goalie. As the defender recovered, she made one move to beat her and then ripped a shot past the netminder for the score.
Senior
Priscilla Ortiz (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) totaled five groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Hack scooped up five groundballs and Voelkner totaled three draw controls. Senior
Korin Karszen (Manorville, N.Y. / Eastport South Manor) totaled four groundballs, one caused turnover and one draw control, while freshman
Cailin O'Hara (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks West) tallied three groundballs and a caused turnover.
Voelkner's 200
th goal moved her into second place all-time and just three goals shy of becoming the all-time goal scorer at Centenary, surpassing
Megan Mars (2007-10). Hack also moved into second all-time in minutes played at 1630, surpassing
Leslie Ann Pritchard (2008-10).
Before the game, Coach Moir and her staff honored seniors Voelkner, Ortiz, Kraszen,
Morgan Haller (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) and
Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere).
