Voelkner Becomes Centenary’s All-Time Goal Scorer in Loss to Neumann

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Apr. 18, 2017)- Senior Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) recorded a hat-trick and became the school's all-time leading goal scorer as the Centenary University women's lacrosse team fell to Neumann University, 20-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

Kaitlyn Conrad finished with six points on six goals for the Knights who improve to 7-8 overall and 6-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Sophomore Renee Hack (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) made 10 saves for the Cyclones who fall to 2-10 overall and 2-6 in the CSAC.

Voelkner came into the contest sitting at 201 and needing just two goals to secure the top spot after scoring her 200th career goal in the loss to Marywood on Apr. 13th. After Voelkner scored her 50th goal of the season and cut the Knights early lead to 2-1 with 25:44 remaining, Neumann responded with three unanswered to propel them to a 5-1 advantage with 22:34 remaining.

Voelkner would become Centenary's all-time scorer just over a minute later, when she scored on a free position shot and cut Neumann's lead to 5-2. Voelkner would score one more time in the opening stanza with a goal at the 19:30 mark. Neumann broke the game open with eight unanswered goals over the final 19:30 for a 14-3 halftime lead. The Knights held the Cyclones scoreless in the second half, while adding on to their halftime advantage with six goals.

Voelkner added seven draw controls and a groundball, while fellow classmate Priscilla Ortiz (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) totaled six groundballs, four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Hack totaled three groundballs, while junior Katie O'Connell (Nutley, N.J. / Nutley), freshman Cailin O'Hara (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks West), and freshman Kassidy Scheuring (Hampton Bays, N.Y. / Hampton Bays) all tallied two groundballs apiece.

Voelkner is also just six points away from moving into first on Centenary's all-time points list. She also needs just one draw control to become first all-time in that category as well.

Head Coach Julie Moir and the Cyclones will return to action in Radnor, Pa. on Saturday, Apr. 22nd, against the Cavaliers of Cabrini University at 12:00 p.m.
