Voelkner and Ortiz Score as Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Undefeated Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. (Apr. 22, 2017)- Seniors Abby Voelkner (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) and Priscilla Ortiz (Denville, N.J. / Morris Knolls) each netted a goal as the Centenary University women's lacrosse team fell to undefeated Cabrini University, 17-2 on Saturday morning.

Avery Murphy and Jackie Neary each totaled four points for the Cavaliers who improve to 13-3 overall and remain undefeated in the CSAC at 9-0. Junior Katie O'Connell (Nutley, N.J. / Nutley) and sophomore Nicole Soriero (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township) each tallied an assist for the Cyclones who fall to 2-11 overall and 2-7 in the CSAC.

The Cavs netted 13 unanswered goals in the first 14 minutes of the first half, before Voelkner scored the first goal of the afternoon during a man-up situation with 8:58 remaining. Cabrini held a 13-1 advantage at intermission.

In the second half, Cabrini pulled back the reigns just a bit as they only scored four goals in the second stanza. Ortiz scored the final goal of the afternoon with an assist from Soriero at the 9:32 mark.

Ortiz added two groundballs, a caused turnover and a draw control, while freshman Cailin O'Hara (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks West) totaled four groundballs and sophomore Renee Hack (Old Bridge, N.J. / Bishop George Ahr) tallied two groundballs. O'Connell, Voelkner, freshman Kassidy Scheuring (Hampton Bays, N.Y. / Hampton Bays), and senior Morgan Haller (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) each recorded a groundball.

Despite the loss, Voelkner moved into first place all-time on the draw controls list, surpassing Alysia Pinkerton (2010-13).  She is also just five points away from moving into first place on the all-time points list.

Head Coach Julie Moir and the Cyclones will return to action on Thursday, Apr. 27th, hosting the Colonels of Wilkes University in the 2017regular season finale at 4:00 p.m.
