Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) finished with 10 points, 13 rebounds and three assists as the Centenary University women's basketball team fell to first place Marywood University, 70-58 on Wednesday evening.
Alyssa Olson finished with 17 points for the Pacers who improve to 16-6 overall and 12-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Junior
Julia Presant (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) finished with 13 points for the Cyclones who fall to 17-5 and 10-3 in the CSAC.
Presant scored 11 of her 13 points in the opening stanza, including a triple to give the Cyclones a 19-15 lead with 6:57 remaining in the second quarter. Marywood answered with a 12-1 run that gave the Pacers a 27-20 lead with 1:46 remaining. Centenary responded with back-to-back buckets from junior
Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) and a triple from fellow classmate
Rachel Edwards (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) to cut the Pacers lead down to 30-28. Marywood would take a 32-28 lead into halftime as Catie Nealon made a layup with time expiring.
In the second half, Marywood opened with a 12-5 run over a 5:58 span to propel them to a 44-33 lead. That run proved to be the difference as the Cyclones would get the Pacers lead to as close as eight late in the third quarter.
Cartaino finished with 11 points and two blocks, while junior
Amber Reisenwitz (Cresco, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) totaled 10 points, four rebounds and four assists. Erika Thomas totaled 16 points, while Natasha Hessling totaled 12 points and 11 rebounds.
