HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Feb. 18, 2017)- Senior
Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) finished with 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists as the Centenary University women's basketball team used a full team effort to defeat Immaculata University, 72-55 on Senior Day.
Junior
Julia Presant (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) made three triples and finished with 15 points for the Cyclones who finish the regular season at 20-5 overall and 13-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Amber Ballinger totaled 16 points and six rebounds for the Mighty Macs who finish the regular season at 8-17 overall and 8-8 in the CSAC.
Centenary jumped out to an early 15-6 lead behind the hot shooting of Presant who connected on her first four shots from the floor. Immaculata would climb back into the contest with an 18-7 run, which gave the Mighty Macs a 24-22 lead with 6:33 remaining in the second quarter. The game would remain extremely tight as Centenary entered the half with a 32-28 advantage.
In the second half, the Cyclones broke the game wide open with a 17-5 run that was capped off by back-to-back triples from junior
Rachel Edwards (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg). Centenary pushed their lead to 51-35 with 3:02 remaining in the third quarter. After the Cyclones run, Immaculata couldn't climb out of the hole as George scored eight of her 14 second half points in the final 11:35 and Centenary extended their lead to the largest of the game at 72-46 with 3:45 remaining in the fourth.
Edwards finished with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists, while fellow classmate
Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) chipped in with 11 points and four rebounds. Junior
Amber Reisenwitz (Cresco, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) totaled seven points, eight rebounds and nine assists, while senior
Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) added four points and three rebounds.
