George’s Double-Double Propels Women’s Basketball to Fourth Straight Victory


HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Jan. 5, 2017)- Senior Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) totaled a season-high 24 points and 11 rebounds as the Centenary University women's basketball team won its fourth straight game with a 56-39 victory over Cedar Crest College on Thursday evening.

Senior Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Cyclones who improve to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Geminii Cabrera scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Falcons who fall to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the CSAC.

George totaled 12 points and eight rebounds in a low scoring but tight first half that saw five ties and eight lead changes. Junior Julia
Presant (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East)
scored all six of her points during a 10-5 run in the final five minutes of the opening stanza that gave Centenary a 26-21 advantage at halftime.

The Cyclones never surrendered the lead again in the second half with a 13-4 run late in the fourth quarter, that gave them their largest lead of the contest at 17 points. Junior Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) posted 10 points and eight rebounds all in the second half.

George is now just three boards away from becoming Centenary's all-time rebounding leader. Senior Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere) added four assists and two steals, while senior Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) totaled three steals and three assists.  

Head Coach Rose Haller and the Cyclones will return to action in Gwynedd Valley, Pa. on Saturday, Jan. 7 against the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy University at 1:00 p.m.
