Warne Makes Career-High 13 saves as Men’s Soccer Falls to FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 21, 2016)- Sophomore Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) made a career-high 13 saves as the Centenary University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference road contest to FDU-Florham on Wednesday evening.

Justin Estremera scored the game-winner and took five shots for the Devils who improve to 2-4-2 overall. Senior Luis Marin (Union City, N.J. / Union Hill), senior Ian Kirkpatrick (Audubon, N.J. / Audubon), junior Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover) and sophomore Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) all took three shots for the Cyclones who fall to 2-4 overall.

Despite an even first half, FDU took an early 1-0 advantage in the 10th minute, as Estremera scored off an assist from Gio Aiello. Warne made five saves in the first half, including stopping a point-blank range shot from Estremera in the 35th minute. FDU held a 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Cyclones sped up the tempo with 11 total shots taken. Centenary's best chance to score came when Devils netminder JT Bertschinder stopped back-to-back shots by White and freshman Matt Miller (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) around the 60 minute mark.

The tempo swung back in favor of FDU, as the Devils recorded nine shots in the final 20 minutes of play. FDU increased their lead to 2-0 in the 87th minute, as Estremera played a through ball to Jose Guardado for the score.

FDU edged Centenary on shots (26-17), shots on goal (15-7) and corner kicks (6-5). Senior Kevin Brix (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township) took two shots, while junior Daniel Lamanna (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) and sophomore Roger Fernandez (Succcasunna, N.J. / Roxbury) each tallied a shot.

Head Coach Keith O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 24, facing the Defenders of Clarks Summit University at 2:30 p.m.
