HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 24, 2016)- Sophomore Roger Fernandez (Succcasunna, N.J. / Roxbury) netted a hat-trick as the Centenary University men's soccer team scored six second half goals in a 9-1 rout of Clarks Summit University on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover) and freshman Matt Miller (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) each scored two goals for the Cyclones who improve to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Wesley Pincince scored a penalty kick goal for the Defenders who fall to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC.

Centenary was in control from the opening whistle with three unanswered goals in the first half. Junior Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury) scored in the 8th minute, while sophomore Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) netted his first goal of the season off an assist from fellow classmate William Squares (Burlington, N.J. / Burlington Township) in the 20th minute. Fernandez finally got his name into the scorebook with an unassisted goal in the 37th minute, as the Cyclones cruised into halftime with a 3-0 advantage.

In the second half, three Cyclones combined for six goals as Centenary kept their foot on the gas. White scored his third and fourth goals of the season, while Miller scored his first career goal as a Cyclone. Centenary maintained a 6-0 lead, when CSU converted on a penalty kick in the 68th minute.
Miller added one more, while Fernandez netted back-to-back goals to put a cap on the scoring for the afternoon.  Centenary edged Clarks Summit on shots (30-4), shots on goal (12-4), and corner kicks (14-0).

Seniors Kevin Brix (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township), Luis Marin (Union City, N.J. / Union Hill) and Chris Bonilla (Newark, N.J. / St. Benedict's Prep) each assisted on a goal in the second half. White took a game-high seven shots, while Marin recorded four. Sophomore Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) improved to 3-4 with two saves in net.
