Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover) netted the game-tying goal, as the Centenary University men's soccer team dropped their season opener to Muhlenberg College, 2-1 on Thursday afternoon.
Anthony Carracino scored both goals for the Mules who improve to 1-0 overall. Sophomore netminder
Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) made eight saves in his first collegiate start for the Cyclones who fall to 0-1 overall.
Muhlenberg held a 1-0 lead at halftime after scoring off a misplayed ball by the Cyclones in the 25
th minute. Warne kept Centenary in the contest with numerous saves, including a penalty kick stop in the 63
rd minute. The Cyclones finally got on the scoreboard in the 73
rd minute, with sophomore
Chris Cameron (Waldwick, N.J. / Waldwick) tapping the ball to White, who ripped a beautiful bicycle kick and evened the contest at 1-1.
The Mules would net the game-winner in the 81th minute, as a cross played by Patrick Bell bounced off Warne onto the foot of Carracino for the score.
Muhlenberg edged Centenary on both shots (14-9) and shots on goal (10-2). White along with junior
Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury) and freshman
Matt Miller (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) each recorded two shots apiece. Carracino led the way with three shots, while Christian Wieand, Pete Luther and Jeff Remley all took two shots apiece for the Mules.
