Men’s Soccer Falls to Muhlenberg in Season Opener

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 1, 2016) - Junior Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover) netted the game-tying goal, as the Centenary University men's soccer team dropped their season opener to Muhlenberg College, 2-1 on Thursday afternoon.

Anthony Carracino scored both goals for the Mules who improve to 1-0 overall. Sophomore netminder Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) made eight saves in his first collegiate start for the Cyclones who fall to 0-1 overall.

Muhlenberg held a 1-0 lead at halftime after scoring off a misplayed ball by the Cyclones in the 25th minute. Warne kept Centenary in the contest with numerous saves, including a penalty kick stop in the 63rd minute. The Cyclones finally got on the scoreboard in the 73rd minute, with sophomore Chris Cameron (Waldwick, N.J. / Waldwick) tapping the ball to White, who ripped a beautiful bicycle kick and evened the contest at 1-1.

The Mules would net the game-winner in the 81th minute, as a cross played by Patrick Bell bounced off Warne onto the foot of Carracino for the score.

Muhlenberg edged Centenary on both shots (14-9) and shots on goal (10-2). White along with junior Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury) and freshman Matt Miller (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) each recorded two shots apiece. Carracino led the way with three shots, while Christian Wieand, Pete Luther and Jeff Remley all took two shots apiece for the Mules.

Head Coach Keith O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 7 against the Ospreys of Stockton University at 4:00 p.m.
