George Collects Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Narrowly Gets Past Keystone


LA PLUME, Pa. (Feb. 20, 2016)- Junior Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds as the Centenary College women's basketball team came away with a 64-57 defeat of Keystone College in the regular season finale.

Junior Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) finished with 14 points and eight rebounds as the Cyclones finished their regular season with a 14-11 overall record and a 9-7 record in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Destinee Hall finished with 22 points for the Giants who close the regular season with a 7-17 overall record and a 4-12 record in the CSAC.

George scored seven of her nine first half points as Centenary closed the first quarter on a 20-5 run to hold a 27-12 lead. 
After Centenary took their largest lead of the game at 32-16 with 5:28 remaining in the second quarter, Keystone responded with a 12-4 run in the final five minutes, as the cyclones clang to a 36-28 halftime advantage. 

In the second half, Centenary opened the third quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 43-32 lead with 6:53 remaining. The Giants responded behind the play of Hall, April Acosta and Samantha Donahue, who scored 46 of Keystone's 57 points. That trio helped get Centenary's lead down to three at 50-47 heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter, the Cyclones went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe and Rabe made back-to-back baskets as Centenary held off a late run by Keystone.

Sophomore Rachel Edwards (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) finished with 10 points and five rebounds, while junior Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) recorded nine points, five assists and two rebounds. Acosta and Donahue finished with 12 points apiece for the Giants.

Head Coach Andrea Kendall and the Cyclones clinched a spot in the postseason as a #5 seed and will travel to Aston, Pa. to face the #4 the Knights of Neumann University on Monday, Feb. 22.
