Women’s Basketball Goes Wire-to-Wire in Victory over Immaculata


IMMACULATA, Pa. (Dec. 3, 2016)- Senior Heather Yaros (Hopatcong, N.J. / Hopatcong) finished with 19 points, on 9-for-13 shooting, five rebounds, and three steals as the Centenary University women's basketball team went wire-to-wire in the 70-49 victory over Immaculata University on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for the Cyclones who improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Tamyra Laws finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for the Mighty Macs who remain winless at 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the CSAC.

The Cyclones were all over the Mighty Macs from the opening tip, as they shot 45.5% from the floor in the first half. Yaros scored 11 of her 13 points in the first quarter, as the Cyclones never trailed in the opening stanza. Centenary limited their turnovers to just six, as they stretched their lead to 35-19 on a triple by junior Rachel Edwards (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) with 2:35 remaining in the second quarter. Centenary maintained a 35-24 advantage at intermission.

Centenary expanded upon their halftime lead by holding Immaculata to six points in the third quarter alone. That defense allowed the Cyclones to take their largest lead of the game at 68-37 on a pair of free throw by freshman Cailian O'Hara (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks West). Centenary kept the field goal shooting north of 40% for the entire contest.

Edwards knocked down three triples and finished with 13 points, while senior Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) added nine points and junior Amber Reisenwitz (Cresco, Pa. / Pocono Mountain East) finished with seven rebounds, five assists, and four rebounds. Theresa Walsh finished with nine rebounds and eight points, while Annie Kohutka totaled nine points and three rebounds for the Mighty Macs who shot 27.1% for the contest.

Head Coach Rose Haller and the Cyclones will return to action on Monday, Dec. 5, hosting the Warriors of Vaughn College at 6:00 p.m.
