Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) and sophomore
Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) both scored 14 points apiece as the Centenary College women's basketball team recorded its third straight victory with a 62-50 defeat of Immaculata University.
Senior
Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J. / Wood-Ridge) made two three pointers and finished with 10 points for the Cyclones who improve to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Tamyra Laws finished with 15 points and eight rebounds for the Mighty Macs who fall to 2-11 overall and 2-3 in the CSAC.
Centenary went back and forth with Immaculata in the first half, as Fugnitti scored five of her seven first half points to give the Cyclones a 20-14 lead after the first quarter. Immaculata recovered behind the play of Reilly Larkin, who scored the final six Mighty Mac points to give them a 30-28 halftime lead.
The Cyclones opened the third quarter on an 11-3 run, as George scored the first six points to give Centenary a 39-33 lead. After Immaculata pulled the lead down to three on a Gina Cocci triple, Cartaino scored five straight points to give Centenary a 46-38 lead at the end of the third.
In the fourth, sophomore
Julia Presant (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) scored the first five points off assists from junior
Heather Yaros (Hopatcong, N.J. / Hopatcong) to spark an 11-4 run that gave the Cyclones their largest lead of the game at 61-45 with 1:05 remaining.
Yaros finished with eight points, three rebounds and three assists, while fellow classmate
Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) finished with five points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. George and Cartaino added seven and five rebounds, respectively. Besides Laws, Immaculata had Larkin and Cocci finished with double digit points. Larkin finished with 13 points, six rebounds and five steals, while Cocci made three triples and finished with 11 points.
