Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) scored her 1000
th career point as the Centenary College women's basketball team recorded a season-high 28 steals and won their fourth straight game with the 77-22 rout of Summit University.
George finished with 20 points, six rebounds and four steals for the Cyclones who improve to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Torri Erdman finished with a team-high seven points and five rebounds for the Defenders who fall to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in the CSAC.
Centenary played lockdown defense as they only allowed 29.0% shooting from the field and forced 39 turnovers. Senior
Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J. / Wood-Ridge) and sophomore
Rachel Edwards (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) combined for 14 of the 28 steals, as both players recorded career-highs with seven steals. Fugnitti added 13 points and four assists, while Edwards dished out five dimes.
Summit actually led 2-0, but the Cyclones imposed their will and used a 34-0 run to break the game wide open.
George scored all 20 points in the first half, including recording her 1000
th point in the second quarter, as she grabbed an offensive rebound and laid it in to reach the milestone.
Junior
Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) finished with 11 points, four assists and three steals, while
Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) scored eight of the 21 bench points and finished with seven rebounds.
