SCRANTON, Pa. (Sept. 13, 2015)- A goal in the 13
th minute by Scranton's Michael Bergen proved to be the difference as the Royals of the University of Scranton defeated the Centenary College men's soccer team, 1-0 this afternoon.
The Royals improve to 2-2, while the Cyclones fall to 1-3.
Scranton controlled the ball for most of the first half, as the Cyclones would manage to get off four shots. Freshman
Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) and junior
Luis Marin (Union City, N.J. / Union Hill) each had their shot on frame denied by Royals' net minder Eric Hintz. Weiss would get another opportunity late in the half, but lofted the ball over the crossover. Sophomore
Justin White (Minehill, New Jersey / Dover) also followed Weiss by lofting his shot too high.
In the second half, White and Weiss continued to attack the Royals' net, but were unsuccessful.
White led the Cyclones with a team-high four shots, while Weiss remained second with three. The Royals totaled 22 shots and had five different players record at least three shots each. Hintz made two saves and collected the victory, while senior
Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) finished with six saves and took the loss.
