La Plume, PA – The Centenary baseball team used a big ninth inning to edge Keystone College in this afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference game, 7-5. With the win, the Cyclones improve to 13-9 overall and 5-6 in the league, while the Giants fall to 15-10 and 3-4 in CSAC play.
Centenary was unable to get the bats going and found themselves down 3-0 at the end of five. The Cyclones would even things up in the seventh after collecting a pair of hits and capitalizing off of two Keystone errors.
The Giants regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh after an RBI single by Alex Herceg for the 4-3 advantage.
After a scoreless eighth frame, the Cyclones scored four runs in the top of the ninth to take back the lead 7-4. With two outs and runners on first and second, sophomore,
JP Trotman stepped up to the plate as a pinch hitter and singled to center to score teammate
Ryan Mariotti for the tie (4-4).
Centenary would load the bases and
Chris Kiesel would score on a wild pitch to put Centenary back on top 5-4. After intentionally walking
Ryan Caparoni, teammate
Dave Raifsnider stepped up to the plate and singled to center driving in two runs (7-4).
The Giants managed to get one run back in the bottom of the ninth but that would be the extent of the scoring as Centenary hung on for the victory.
Senior pitcher,
Chad Frankenfield took home the triumph after throwing two innings giving up one run and one hit.
John Stanziale started the game with six innings pitched allowing three runs off of five hits.
Caparoni collected a pair of hits on the day, while seven other Cyclones each recorded one hit.
Centenary will stay on the road as they visit Gwynedd Mercy in Gwynedd Valley, PA on April 14
th @ 3pm.
