Centenary Falls Short to Marywood, 62-57

Hackettstown, NJ –On Monday night, The Cyclones dropped a crucial 62-57 decision to Marywood (at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. The loss drops their record to 7-7 in the CSAC and 8-15 overall with two games remaining in the season.
 
The first half was a back and forth with five lead changes and six ties.  However at the 5:52 mark, Marywood went on an 11-4 run which extended their lead to nine (25-32). The Cyclones would head to the locker room trailing 25-34.
 
At the start of the second half, Marywood was able to get the lead to as much as 10 before the Cyclones ignited on a 10-4 run which brought their deficit to only two (36-38). Over the next few minutes, Marywood nursed a slim lead with Centenary biting at their heels cutting the deficit to one on two different occasions. 
 
Trailing 54-53 at the 4:39 mark, Rachel Edwards gave Centenary a 55-54 after putting back a missed jumper with 3:52 remaining.  Unfortunately a couple of costly giveaways from the Cyclones gave Marywood their chance to regain the lead as they went on a 6-0 run in the final 1:51 of regulation to win the game 62-57.
 
Mallory George and Nicole Cartaino each put up 16 points in the game while George came one rebound shy of a double-double.  Ally Fugnitti also had a solid game as she nailed 12 points, which included 4-of-5 from the arch.
 
Maggie Presnal led Marywood as she posted 15 points and seven rebounds. Danielle Terranella and Alexa Gerchman rounded out their 10+ point scorers with Terranella netting 11 and Gerchman garnering 10.
 
As close as the game was, Marywood shot almost 10% higher then Centenary from the field going 46.2% compared to the Cyclones 36.7%. Almost all of the underlying stats were identical with the largest margin going to Centenary having more points off turnovers with 19 to Marywood's 16.
 
In a must-win situation, Centenary will have a tough road ahead as their final two games will be away-and-home with the 11-3, and second in the CSAC, Immaculata University. The Cyclones will visit Immaculata Wednesday night @ 6:00 PM.
