Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) grabbed 15 rebounds and added nine points as the Centenary College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark, 55-43.
Arianna Williams finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Scarlet Raiders who improve to 4-4 overall. Junior
Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) finished with 11 points for the Cyclones, who fall to 3-5 overall.
Centenary jumped out to an early 13-1 lead as senior
Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J. / Wood-Ridge) knocked down two triples, forcing the Scarlet Raiders to call a 30 second timeout with six minutes remaining in the first. Rutgers would settle down and find their stroke as they erased Centenary's lead to take a 15-13 advantage after the first quarter. An extremely low scoring second quarter allowed the Scarlet Raiders to hold a 24-23 advantage at the break
In the second half, Centenary and Rutgers combined for only 20 points and six different lead chances in the third quarter alone. The Scarlet Raiders would pull away for good in the fourth as they used a 21-8 run to close the game.
Fugnitti finished with six points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while junior
Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere) pulled down seven rebounds.
