th, 2015)- The Centenary College women's basketball team snapped a three game losing streak in dramatic fashion with a 53-49 victory over Drew University in the final home game of 2015.
The Cyclones were led by junior
Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) who collected her seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds as Centenary improved to 4-5 overall. Sam Lane and Courtney Stephens both finished with 14 points for the Rangers who fall to 5-3 overall.
After trailing 26-22 at halftime, the Cyclones opened the third quarter with an 18-2 run that allowed Centenary to take their largest lead of the game at 40-28 with 1:44 remaining in the third.
George added five assists, including four in the second half, as she assisted on timely triples by sophomore
Julia Presant (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill East) and senior
Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J. / Wood-Ridge) in the fourth quarter. Presant's three pointer stopped a 6-0 run by the Rangers, as they had cut the Cyclones lead down to 46-40 with 6:10 remaining.
Drew recovered and went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead down to 49-47 with 2:34 remaining, before Fugnitti connected on an off balance three pointer to put the Cyclones back up by five at 52-47 with 1:41 remaining.
Centenary survived a late scare by the Rangers, as a possible costly turnover gave the ball back to Drew in front of their own bench with a chance to tie the game. The Rangers played the ball into their point guard, Michaela Keegan, who committed a turnover of her own by stepping on the half court line.
Sophomore
Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) finished with 10 points and six rebounds, while junior
Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J. / Belvidere) finished with a season-high eight rebounds and added six points.
