Edwards Connects on Career-High Six Triples as Women’s Basketball Defeats Washington Adventist

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Nov. 24th, 2015)- Sophomore Rachel Edwards (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) connected on a career-high six three-pointers and finished with 21 points as the Centenary College women's basketball team defeated Washington Adventist University, 62-56.

Junior Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Cyclones, who improve to 3-2 overall. Jerria Brown-McDaniel led with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Shock who fall to 4-3 overall.

The first half was a low scoring battle as both teams traded the lead with neither team possessing more than a five point advantage. After George scored back-to-back layups to even the game at 25 with 5:44 in the 2nd quarter. Courtney Jenkins scored the final nine points for the Shock, as they held a 32-30 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Cyclones attempted to break the game open as they used a 16-2 run to take 49-36 lead with 3:22 remaining in the third quarter. Centenary carried that momentum into the fourth quarter as junior Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) assisted on an Edwards three pointer and a lay-up by sophomore Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) to give the Cyclones their largest lead of the game at 55-40 with 8:51 remaining.

The Shock didn't go quietly as they responded with a 15-4 run to close the lead to 59-55 with 49 seconds remaining. Despite the run, the Cyclones were able to salt away the game from the charity stripe as senior Angela Randle (East Orange, N.J. / Marist) and junior Alexis Wilson (Bayonne, N.J. / Marist) made key free throws.
Cartaino finished with seven points and five rebounds, while Rabe added five rebounds and four assists.

Head Coach Andrea Kendall and the Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd, as they will host the Cavaliers of Cabrini College in their CSAC opener at 6:00 p.m.
