HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Nov. 13
th, 2015) – On Friday night, the Centenary women's basketball team (1-0) got their season started on the right foot as they cruised past the Roadrunners of Ramapo College, 75-54, at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center this evening.
The Cyclones were led by junior
Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J. / Governor Livingston), as she had a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds. George went 6-for-13 from the field, while going 7-for-8 from the line and grabbing five rebounds in the offensive paint in 31 minutes.
Sophomore
Rachel Edwards (Phillipsburg, N.J. / Phillipsburg) also had a solid opening game as she added 12 points, which included her shooting 4-for-7 from the behind the arc.
Although the final score was a 20-point victory for the Cyclones, the game didn't start out that way, as both teams were knotted at 15-15 after the first period. The second period allowed the Cyclones to give themselves a little more breathing room as they scored 10 points over the final three minutes of the half, giving them a 36-26 lead heading into halftime.
The Cyclones held their 10-point advantage for most of the third period until in the final minute when they went on a 6-1 run, allowing them to take a 15-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Centenary scored four quick points to open the fourth period to extend their lead to 60-41, and cruised to the finish line with the 75-54 victory.
Otherwise it was an all-around effort for the Cyclones as junior
Melissa Rabe (Byram, N.J. / Lenape Valley) and sophomore
Nicole Cartaino (Midland Park, N.J. / Midland Park) each knocked in nine points, while only three Cyclones were held without a point in the contest.
