Seven First Half Goals Vault Men’s Soccer to Easy Non-Conference Victory over PSU-Brandywine

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Oct. 5, 2015)- Powered by seven first half goals, the Centenary College men's soccer team rolled to an easy 8-0 non-conference victory over the Nittany Lions of PSU-Brandywine. Freshman Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) netted a hat-trick for the Cyclones who improve to 6-5 overall. Bill Walleekendeh took a team-high three shots for the Nittany Lions, who fall to 4-7 overall.

Centenary overwhelmed Penn. St.-Brandywine from the opening whistle. Sophomore Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury) and freshman Jared Miele (Flanders, N.J./Flanders) netted goals in the opening 11 minutes to take a 2-0 lead. Weiss was the next Cyclone to get on the board, as he scored one goal off an assist from sophomore Daniel Lamanna (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury). Centenary increased their lead to 4-0.

The Cyclones took a 5-0 lead in the 25th minute, as senior Abiodun Lawal (Irvington, N.J. / Irvington) netted his first goal of the season.  Centenary closed the half with sophomore Chris Flores (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) scoring off an assist from sophomore Bryan Mason (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) and Weiss netted his third score of the afternoon, off an assist from senior Makenson Joseph (Haute-Feuille, Merchant Dessalines / Irvington High School). The Cyclones were well in control when the final buzzer sounded to end the half at 7-0.

In the second half, senior Sean Robinson (Mount Olive, N.J. / Mount Olive) scored his first goal of the season, off an assist from sophomore Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover)

The Cyclones dominated all aspects of the boxscore, edging the Nittany Lions in shots (13-5), shots on goal (10-4), saves (4-2) and corner kicks (8-2). Senior Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice) made four saves and picked up the victory, while Will Scott-Norris made two saves and took the loss.

Head Coach Keith O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 10th, as they will host the Knights of Neumann University at 2:00 p.m.
