HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Oct. 10, 2015)- Junior
Luis Marin (Union City, N.J. / Union Hill) recorded a five point afternoon as the Centenary College men's soccer team picked up its second CSAC victory with a 5-1 decision over the Knights of Neumann University.
Marin scored two goals and assisted on another as the Cyclones improve to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Andrew Kelly netted the lone goal for the Knights, who fall to 2-7-1 overall and 1-3 in the CSAC.
Centenary struck first in the opening minutes as Marin scored an unassisted goal to give the Cyclones an early 1-0 lead. Neumann answered back less than two minutes later, to even the game at 1-1, as Kelly scored on a header from Donnie Tben.
Neumann looked to push their lead to 2-1, but were denied on back-to-back opportunities by senior
Jesse Goleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Taylor Allderdice). Centenary would respond to the Knights goal in the 25
th minute, as Marin scored his second goal of the afternoon off a double assist from sophomores
Daniel Lamanna (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) and
Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury).
After that goal, the Cyclones didn't look back. Centenary took a 3-1 lead in the 33
rd minute, as Marin played a corner kick into the box, that was headed in by junior
Kevin Brix (Monroe Township, N.J. / Monroe Township). Neumann tried to make up some ground before halftime, but Goleman made back-to-back saves to preserve the 3-1 lead.
In the second half, Centenary controlled the pace and flow of the game. The Cyclones increased their lead to 4-1 in the 66
th minute as senior
Makenson Joseph (Haute-Feuille, Merchant Dessalines / Irvington High School) scored off a loose ball in the box. Centenary's final goal of the afternoon came off the foot of freshman
Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown), who scored off an assist from sophomore
Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover).
Marin took a game-high six shots, while White and Lamanna both recorded two. Christian Cortese and Donnie Tben both recorded four shots of the Knights. Goleman made 10 saves and notched the victory, while Tim Glaccum made five saves and took the loss.
