Hackettstown, NJ – Centenary College (2-9) scores four in double digits but was not enough as late turnovers plagued the Cyclones as they fell to Kean University (8-4) at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. In a hard fought battle, Centenary was defeated by Kean University by a final score of 61-55.
This game was a very defensive driven contest as Kean controlled the paint in both halves outscoring Centenary (44-20). Kean pulled away a bit before the end of the first half with 8-2 run to head into the break leading 31-21.
Centenary rallied in the second half coming back from as much as 15 at one point with the score 24-39. The Cyclones slowly worked their way back to within seven before breaking out a 12-4 run which knotted the score at 49-49 with 5:24 to play.
Down one (52-53) with 2:46 left in regulation, the Cougars would force five turnovers and capitalize on them sealing their victory.
Mallory George led the Cyclones as she grabbed a double-double in the game with 15 points (6-for-11) and 13 rebounds.
Three other cyclones nailed at least 10 points in the game with
Taylor Pryslak (4-7) and
Nicole Cartaino (4-for-10) each netting eleven in the contest.
Ally Fugnitti also had 10 points (4-of-8) and went 2-for-5 from the arch while grabbing three rebounds.
Rachel Edwards added six points (3-of-11) for the Cyclones while
Melissa Rabe also chipped in with two points (1-6) in the loss.
Two players stood out for Kean. Najha Treadwell almost had a double-double with 16 points (8-13) and eight rebounds. Jazmine Davis led Kean with 20 points while going 10-17 from the field.
The teams shot very similarly throughout the game with Centenary shooting 38.6% from the first compared to Kean's 37.5%. Kean went (0-6) from behind the arch throughout the contest while Centenary went 30% (2-6). Centenary shot 66.7% (8-12) from the stripe while Kean went 58.3% (4-6) from the line.
The Cyclones will only see their CSAC rivals from this point forward and will start with Marywood University on Wednesday in Scranton Pa. @ 6:00 P.M.
