Aston, PA – The fifth-seeded Centenary men's soccer team were defeated by the #1 seed, Neumann University in this evening's Colonial States Athletic Conference semifinal match, 4-1.
The Knights opened the scoring early in the first half netting two goals in a span of three minutes. In the 18
th minute, Brooks Skyers netted an unassisted goal off a direct kick and Jim McDowell added his third goal of the season off a pass from Devin Peterson for a 2-0 lead.
In the 36
th minute, the Knights would increase the lead to 3-0 as Zach DiDonato connected on a pass from Andrew Kelly.
In the second half, Centenary's
Sean Robinson (Mount Olive, NJ / Mount Olive) put the Cyclones on the board when he finished a rebound shot in the 70
th minute of play.
Neumann, however, would continue to control the offense as they outshot Centenary 21-10 and held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Skyers would cap off the scoring as a Centenary foul in the box granted him a penalty kick which he converted to seal the 4-1 win for the Knights.
With the loss, Centenary concludes their season with an overall record of 12-7-1, while Neumann moves on to the CSAC championship round with a 10-8-1 record.
Centenary now awaits an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) postseason bid. Selections will take place early next week.
