Galloway, NJ – No. 6 Centenary College (12-8-1) men's soccer team concluded their season this evening as they were defeated by No. 3 Richard Stockton (12-5-5) in the first round of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) tournament. Down 5-1 in the first half, the Cyclones rallied back with a four-goal eruption in the second half to tie the game at 5-5 and force the extra period before giving up the golden goal and falling to the Ospreys 6-5.
Richard Stockton's Anthony Colorfranson quickly took control of the game with a goal 27 seconds into the game and another in the 12
th minute to give the Ospreys a 2-0 lead. Stockton would tack on two more goals when Chimaobi Ikwuagwu finished a rebound shot in the 20
th minute and Tim Sost increased the lead to 4-0 with a goal seven minutes later.
Centenary's senior forward,
Quinn Khouri (Eldersburg, Md / Liberty) put the Cyclones on the board in the 29
th minute when he blasted a free kick from outside the box for his first of three goals of the night. Stockton's Alex Khouranis would add one more goal and head into the break with a 5-1 lead over Centenary.
The first half belonged to Richard Stockton as they outshot the Cyclones 22-1 and held 4-0 corner kick advantage.
The tides turned as the final 45 minutes of regulation belonged to Khouri and the Cyclones as they stormed their way back into the game netting four consecutive goals to knot the game at five apiece.
Just five minutes into the second half, Khouri began the rally with his second goal of the night as he put away a deflected shot. In the 69
th minute, freshman
Richy Castro (Roxbury, NJ / Roxbury) found the back of the net off a rebound shot and pulled the Cyclones within two (5-3).
In a span of a minute, the Cyclones tallied two goals to tie the game at five when Khouri notched his 16
th goal of the season and third of the night for a hat trick off a pass from teammate
Magno Franco (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown). Thirty seconds later (71:48),
Nick DePasquale (Toms River, NJ / Toms River East) sent the equalizer between the pipes for his fourth goal of the season.
Despite being outshot in the second half 11-7, the Cyclones held the advantage in corner kicks by a slim 3-2 and kept the Ospreys off the scoreboard to force the extra 10 minutes of overtime.
Stockton's Colorfranson would score the golden goal in the 98
th minute on a header off a corner kick by Mike DeFeo to seal the game and move on to the semifinals of the ECAC tournament.
In his first start this season, Cyclone keeper
Kyle Maris (Stewartsville, NJ / Phillipsburg) tallied seven stops for Centenary.
Quinn Khouri's third goal marks his 37
th career goal and is now tied for first place in the Centenary record books. This season, Khouri has been Centenary's leading scorer in goals (16) and points (38) and is also tied for first in both these categories in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC).
