Coach Jack Winters enters his third season as the Pitching Coach at Centenary University


In 2016, Jack led the program’s pitching staff to one of its most successful seasons on record. Despite inheriting a pitching staff with only two players with more than 10 innings of collegiate experience, the pitching staff led the Colonial States Athletic Conference in lowest ERA (3.60), least amount of walks (79), hits (282), and home runs allowed (9), most shutouts recorded (T-4), and lowest WHIP (1.40) over 257.1 IP. In addition, the staff’s ERA of 3.60 ranks #1 on record at Centenary University. Also in the 2016 campaign, the pitching staff totaled 13 mid and post-season awards including CSAC Rookie of the Year and D3baseball.com Mid-Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year Trey Hinkle '19.


In the summer of 2016 Jack served as the Head Coach of the Carolina Forest Crawdads of the Beach Collegiate Baseball League (BCBL) in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The Crawdads finished the regular season in first place in the Coastal Division and reached the semi-final round of the BCBL playoffs.  The team was anchored by its pitching staff, which recorded a 3.63 ERA with 200 strikeouts, 107 walks, and a batting average against of .258 in 196 IP.  In the summer of 2017, Jack managed the Chillicothe Mudcats (MO) of the M.I.N.K Collegiate Baseball League to their 17th straight winning season, which included 3 Pitcher of the Week honors, 1 Player of the Week honor and 1 single-season individual team record.
 
Prior to his career at Centenary University, Jack was a full-time member of the coaching staff at Professional Baseball Instruction (PBI) in Oakland, NJ. At PBI Jack held the position of Field Director. In 2015 PBI was named “Best of Bergen” by (201) Magazine for baseball instruction.  Jack accredits much of his professional development to mentors of his at PBI, including Doug Cinnella and Steve Hayward. Among the numerous baseball professionals associated with PBI are current Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint?Hurdle, long-time MLB coach Sam?Perlozzo, and Leo Mazzone, the long-time?Atlanta Braves pitching coach heralded for?his development and oversight of the?Braves’ Hall of Fame studded pitching staff?in the 90s and early 00s. Jack is also an active coach in the Eagles Baseball Association (EBA) club team program, which is operated by PBI.  As a youth and high school EBA head coach, Jack has compiled an overall record of 141-94-5 along with 11 league playoff appearances, 4 league and tournament championships, and 4 no-hitters. With PBI, Jack is also involved in player procurement for the PBI’s entry into the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL) the North Jersey Eagles and PBI’s Metropolitan Collegiate Baseball League as well North Jersey Eagles’ high school showcase teams. Through PBI, Jack is affiliated with the Baseball Health Network (BHN) and throwing-arm rehabilitation specialist Steve Hayward.
 
Jack has also spent time coaching the high school level.  From 2011-2013 he served as the varsity Pitching Coach at his alma mater River Dell High School in Oradell, NJ. In three years as River Dell’s Pitching Coach Jack guided the staff to a team ERA of 3.35 in addition to two no-hitters.  In 2015 he was the freshman baseball coach at Mahwah High School where he guided the Thunderbirds to a 14-4 record and a #7 ranking in the 43rd annual Bergen County Coaches’ Association Freshman Baseball Tournament.
 
As a player, Jack's began his career at River Dell High School where he threw a no-hitter in his first varsity start in 2005. Following his All-League career at River Dell, Jack went on to become a main-stay in the rotation at Rutgers University-Newark before transferring to the University of Redlands where he ranks in school records for saves in a single season. Jack also pitched for the Cheyenne Grizzlies of the Mountain Collegiate Baseball League where he was a league all-star in 2009 and 2010 and was part of the league championship team in 2010.  Jack holds the single-season league record for saves in the MCBL and is also ranked in single-season appearances.  In addition, Jack pitched for the Connecticut Lawmen of the Tri-State Collegiate League in 2008 where he was also a league all-star. After his collegiate career, Jack appeared in the California Winter League where he was signed by the White Sands Pupfish of the Pecos League and pitched as the team’s closer; he was later traded to the Alpine Cowboys to help solidify their bullpen. In 2012 Jack signed with the Santa Fe Fuego, also of the Pecos League, and was used as both a starter and a middle-reliever.
 
Jack graduated from the University of Redlands in 2010 with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and History and is currently pursuing a Masters of Business Administration at Centenary University.
 
He currently resides in Knowlton, NJ
