Hackettstown, NJ - Despite taking a early lead, the Centenary Univerity baseball team lost a tough faught 4-3 battle to Marywood University in Game 1 of the Atlantic East Playoffs.
Centenary battled throughout the afternoon and kept the pressure on offensively, but were unable to find the tying run late against a tough opponent. The Cyclones threatened in the final inning with the tying run on base, but the comeback effort came up just short.
Offensively,
Joseph Frei led the way with a strong 3-for-4 performance while scoring a run.
Dominick Chiego added two hits in five at-bats with an RBI, while
Nick Friscia finished 2-for-4 with an RBI of his own.
On the mound,
Anthony Spungin delivered a terrific outing for the Cyclones, tossing 5.1 innings while striking out five batters and allowing just three runs to keep Centenary in the game throughout the afternoon.
Despite the setback, the Cyclones showed resilience and determination and will look to fight their way through the losers bracket. Centenary returns to action Friday morning at 9 a.m. as they continue their Atlantic East playoff run. They will play the loser of the Marymount and Immaculata Game.
