Baltimore, MD: The Cyclones split a pair of matches at Goucher College. They earned a hard fought five-set victory over Wilson before falling to Goucher in straight sets.
In the opening match, the Clones battled through momentum swings to defeat Wilson 3-2 (25-12, 22-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-8). Junior
Poppy Skjonnemand led the charge with a team high 19 kills, four blocks, and four service aces. Junior
Jennifer Thistlethwaite chipped in 11 kills, 20 digs, and four aces of her own, while Freshman star
Rey Bennett anchored the back row with 25 digs and two service aces. Setter freshman
Gabriella Miller contributed 15 assists and 15 digs and
Alea Herman dished out 14 assists with 9 digs. As a team, the Cyclones posted 42 kills, 92 digs, and 14 service aces in the win.
In the second match-up, Centenary faced a strong Goucher squad and fell 3-0 (18-25,17-25, 23-25). Despite the sweep, the Cloned fought hard in the third set, pushing the Gophers to the brink before dropping the frame 25-23. Skjonnemand once again paced the offense with 7 kills and 16 digs, while Bennett added 7 kills, 19 digs, and 2 service aces. Thistlethwaite tallied 12 digs and 4 kills, and Herman handed out 14 assists. The Clones totaled 23 kills, 65 digs and 3 aces in the match.
With the split, the Clones move to 4-4 overall on the season. Centenary will return to action next week as they continue non-conference play.
