Centenary University Flag Football: A Historic Inaugural Season and Playoff Push

In their inaugural season, Centenary University's Flag Football team made an incredible mark on the sport, finishing with a 6-6 record and securing a spot in the Atlantic East Playoffs. This achievement not only earned them a #3 seed but also marked the program's first-ever playoff berth—a remarkable feat in the program's very first year.

The Cyclones' journey to the playoffs was a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience of the team, which overcame challenges and adversity from the very beginning. Head Coach Jake McMullan reflected on his team's impressive performance, sharing his pride in their achievements. "I told the girls before stepping out on the field for our first game that they were making history regardless of what happens, might as well make a statement," McMullan said. "Throughout the year, we stood on that foundation to exceed expectations and to push each other to grow as individuals."

Indeed, this season was all about growth—both on and off the field. Coach McMullan emphasized how the team's commitment to learning a new sport, buying into the program, and supporting one another helped them overcome obstacles and continually improve. "Beyond proud of this group of girls," he said. "Can't express how hard-working they have been between learning a new sport, buying into our program and each other, and continuing to face adversity throughout the season. Football is full of life lessons, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to teach them to this group."

The Cyclones are now gearing up for their first-ever playoff game, set for this Saturday against the #2 seeded Eastern University, which will take place at Marymount. Though it will be a tough matchup, Centenary's historic first season has proven that this team is capable of defying the odds and making an impact.

The road to the playoffs was not easy, but Centenary's Flag Football team remained focused on their collective goals, and as they face Eastern University, they're carrying the weight of their hard work and determination on their shoulders. Whether or not they advance further in the playoffs, the Cyclones have already written a memorable chapter in the history of Centenary University athletics.

Coach McMullan and the Cyclones look forward to what comes next, knowing that this season will be a foundation for future success. The team's tenacity and unity have set the stage for even greater things to come in the years ahead, and for now, they're ready to make even more history on the field.
