HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. — Centenary men's basketball dropped a home matchup against Sarah Lawewnce Saturday afternoon, in a 72–58 decision at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center.
The loss moves Centenary to 2–5 on the season, while the visiting Gryphons improve to 3–5.
Junior guard Naire Preston led the Cyclones with an impressive all-around performance, scoring 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting while adding three steals and showing sparks on both ends. Kenneth Rankin added 12 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line, and Devin Strickland contributed 8 points off the bench.
Centenary started strong, matching Sarah Lawrence basket for basket early and taking advantage of transition opportunities to keep the margin close.
Centenary's late push brought the deficit to eight with just under ten minutes to play, highlighted by a Preston three-pointer and back-to-back defensive stops. But the Gryphons responded with a 7–0 run stretching the lead beyond recovery.
Despite the loss, the Cyclones showed resilience and depth. Senior forward Roman Carone provided tough minutes inside, finishing with six points and four rebounds, while Junior forward Jasir Lane grabbed seven boards and anchored the defensive interior.
Centenary will look to bounce back as they prepare for their next matchup and try to regain momentum early in the season.
