Cyclones Close Year with 76–53 Win Over Penn College

Hackettstown, N.J.: The Centenary University women's basketball team closed out the calendar year with a strong 76–53 victory over Penn College at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. The Cyclones took control early, leading 18–9 after the first quarter and maintaining their edge throughout the contest with balanced scoring and aggressive defense. Centenary shot efficiently as a team, hitting 46.3% from the field and 47.4% from three-point range, while limiting Penn College to just 40.0% overall shooting. 

Vatijah Davis led the Cyclones with 22 points, going 10-for-16 from the floor and anchoring the paint with six rebounds. Kayla Sampong had a breakout game with 18 points, including 4 three-pointers, and Makayla Williams added nine points and seven rebounds. Alexa Osafo-Mensah contributed seven points, eight rebounds and two steals, and Jasmine Sampong chipped in six points off the bench. Centenary also received solid contributions from Ashanti Dewalt, who added seven points and helped spark momentum in transition.

The Cyclones outpaced Penn College in scoring in every quarter and made timely shots to maintain separation through the second half, finishing with 28 points off turnovers and 14 bench points. Defensively, Centenary held its opponent to just 53 points while forcing multiple stops and controlling the glass.

With the win, Centenary improved to 6–4 on the season and will look to build on its balanced play as it heads into the new year with one final matchup before Atlantic East Conference play starts.
