Hackettstown, NJ: Clones pick up two on the Maritime Privateers by a score of 5-4 in game one, and 4-1 in game two. The Cyclones record as they enter a three-game home stretch.
Dramatic Fashion
Going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Cyclones were facing a two-run deficit and potentially picking up their fifth loss of the season.
Kris Mankin would reach first after being hit by the pitch to kick off the inning for the Clones. Paul Links followed Mankin's at bat, with a single to left field advancing the runner to second base. Senior Nick Gattusso would then load the bases with no outs after a base hit to left field. Driving in the first run of the inning would be sophomore, Jake Keenan, with a SAC fly to right which would also advance the runners to second and third. Once again, the Cyclones found themselves with the bases loaded after Chris Gass was put on first, by way of an intentional walk. With two outs and the game winning run standing on second base, in steps Anthony Vassallo who would hit a double over the left fielder winning the game for the Cyclones and rolling them into game two on a high note.
Rolling On a High Note
Unlike game one, the Cyclones would get ahead in the third inning and stay ahead in game two. Getting it done on the mound for the Clones were Jacob Hirner and Jackson Ponzo. Hirner started the game and tossed five scoreless innings allowing just 3 hits on the bump, and Ponzo would throw two innings allowing just one run to cross the plate.
The Cyclones would conclude their spring break with a 5-2 record (7-4 Overall).
